Thoughts on Rolfing
February 25th, 2014 by Joachim Creten
A part of the Rolfing process is learning to develop your own body awareness, or rediscovering your body awareness. Modern society has left us very body unaware. For instance, I am in pain, I call my doctor, he gives me a pill, I feel better. My level of awareness was pain and now I feel better. But what about the others effects of taking a pill. To be Rolfed is not only about rebalancing the body, reducing the tensions or creating more space between bones or freedom from pain, it is also about the body developing a relationship with gravity. For instance, is standing still comfortable or am I changing my weight from one leg to the other? During a Rolfing session, I am working and encouraging my clients to develop their body awareness as to how the body weight is distributed through their feet, e.g. more on the heels, ball of the foot, lateral or medial. Is my body leaning forward or backward … and so on. I am inviting you to try this at home.
